Pasadena Weekly: Published June 28, 2007 - Re: “No cause for celebration” (June 7). I'm really disappointed that the parade organizing committee will allow China to be part of the Rose Parade to promote the 2008 Olympics. Although the Games provide a rare opportunity for rights groups to highlight China's abuses — where the young and old are tortured for their beliefs and organ harvesting is synonymous with genocide — can the free world really afford to sweep the sad reality under the carpet to sustain such a barbaric regime?
On the other hand, if Tournament of Roses President CL Keedy is sincere about exchanging views with Xicheng, a district within Beijing, does that mean that he will raise the plight of Falun Gong with them now that he's aware of the persecution? I won't hold my breath, but I can't help wonder if Keedy would have invited Hitler as parade grand marshal given a chance? Genocide simply cannot co-exist with the Olympics, let alone be celebrated.
