Floods Sweep Through Hainan Province, China

NTD: Floods have swept through China's southern province of Hainan, after the worst rainstorms in nearly 50 years lashed the island. Parts of the island experienced nearly a foot of rainfall.

According to Chinese state-run media, the torrential rains which have pounded the region for a week have forced the evacuation of more than 130,000 people and inundated over 700 villages.

Floodwater has cut off over a dozen roads and submerged farmlands as well.

The rain also caused transportation problems during a seven-day nationwide holiday.
